Just like the TDM set up, Jigokucho is in recovery mode after the dissipation of a curse that befell the city. It was a full-on horror apocalypse.

The curse is gone, there are rumors stirring that the turf war has ended, and the Kappa are all going back down to work on building… something. It’s all pretty hush-hush, but anyone that’s not in the Department can ask freely about it. The Enma has bigger things to be concerned with already anyway (namely the newly named cause of the curse: Haniyasu).

So what does that mean for the next two months? Well, between whatever it is being cooked up in the Underground and everything else, the theme of these two months is Tanabata! How that celebration takes shape in a place like Jigokucho will be revealed as the month goes on, so stay tuned to find out more!

I'm a tired Korean-American teaching English in Japan which explains my weird tag hours. My main fandoms are Fire Emblem and Touken Ranbu but I dabble a bit in Genshin, FGO, SpyxFamily, and misc. webtoons. I'm getting ready for a pretty big move so I'm taking it kind of easy this month.

Character Name: Hizen Tadahiro
Canon: Touken Ranbu
Character Age: 500+ but he looks like he could be 18-20. Is he an edgy teen or a moody young adult? You decide.
Faction: Shuten
Brief Rundown:

Hizen is tsukumogami-- a sword spirit. He's tired, prickly, direct, very rough around the edges, and in general not a very pleasant person. He's only had a human form and feelings for a short amount of time so he's kind of emotionally stunted. Hizen regards himself as more of a tool than an actual person but... he's learning.

His master used to be one of Japan's most famous assassins, Okada Izo, so he specializes in assassinations and dirty work which he kind of hates. All sword boys are good boys but because of certain self-esteem issues, he's convinced no one would ever believe him if he tried to be good. He's highly food motivated and gets weak whenever someone acknowledges him with basic human compassion and respect.

Hizen had to carry out a hit (see: do some intimidation) for the clan which made him pretty gloomy. Some things triggered his self-worth issues during the event and he spent the rest of it trying to be useful until he exhausted himself. On the plus side, he got promoted recently ⭐⭐! He used his new rank and influence to get everyone free clothes. He really doesn't want to make a big deal out of it because of how rough June was for him but the response he received was genuinely overwhelming for him. Newbies also get a set of clothes because it happened during the TDM and y'all were here!

Initial Ideas:

Hizen used his new rank to score everyone some new clothes after the rain. He genuinely didn't expect the response he received and became very overwhelmed. I know a lot of people didn't recognize/know and he wasn't very forthcoming about who he was even though people wanted to find out. There are/were definitely plenty of clues if your character really wants to know!

Shutens are free to handwave and say they found his contact information somehow.

If we've ever done a thread together that didn't end in them hating each other mutually, you can say your character got his contact information. He's pretty easy to bully as long as Hizen doesn't outright dislike you.

Everyone starting at square 1 can find out: He's in Shuten and some people called him Hizen on the post. If they want to go full cyber stalker, he doesn't do video/voice on the public network but he did end up on Ember when it debuted. He isn't doing Ember this time (unless someone wants to post it for him in which case I'll collab with you).

If none of the above work for you, you can also say the shop owners described him or something. His defining traits are that he has black/red hair, wears a bandage around his neck, and he always has a sword. I'm happy to work something else out if you want!
If anyone wants to repay or thank him personally, he's still pretty mean/tsundere in person. He has a harder time getting away from people in real life though. He's highly food/drink motivated.

I also want him to try to find sword enthusiasts or people who might have experience working with spirits.

He's a sword spirit, his true form is his sword, and he hasn't had anyone do proper care since he arrived. His condition is tied to his sword and he's been really exhausted. He's basically asking for the equivalent of a health check and he'll be a little more forthcoming about who/what he is because this is kind of important to him. Get some lore! Find out he's a sword spirit.

I also want him to look for a fight buddy in the process. I also kind of want him to do sword lessons for a few people??? He won't take on too many students (because he knows he's a tired and mean teacher) and he'll prioritize other Shuten folks first but if you have a character that wants to learn the way of the sword, come at me!!

I'm going to limit myself when it comes to substories this month, especially the plot-important ones. I have a lot going on this month so I'm doing more general things. IC, we can say Hizen is just keeping a low profile after the hit, the event, and being anxious because he's been perceived by too many people recently.

CR Desires:

✧ Food, drinking, and fight buddies. Because this is the kind of person he is.
✧ People who will help him learn how to act like a decent/basic person and not a gremlin spirit. Look, ya boy doesn't even know how to process certain emotions without shutting down. He definitely needs therapy but he also needs someone to teach him how to be an actual person.
✧ Friends. He's still learning that he needs them and he's learning how to be one.
✧ Time shenanigans. He's a time traveler from the year 2205! He actually works for the Japanese government. But he's also strongly affiliated with the 19th century because that's when he was most active. He's an old soul who is also familiar with the new world and gets it when other people are like WHAT IS THIS PLACE.
✧ Honestly, I'm open to anything. Positive, negative, complicated, silly, etc.

I have a newbie Shuten and I personally would like to touch sword boys! Hizen like...would probably remind Skylark of his best friend back home, who's a similar kind of person. He wouldn't be easily put off by Hizen being himself at least, since he can be pretty sassy himself.

Unfortunately he doesn't have much experience with swords, but he does have lots of experience with spirits (read: pestered by several throughout his life), so I think he'd be pretty understanding of Hizen being bad at actual personhood and could try to help? He's also a time shenanigans sufferer since he comes from a...fantasy wuxia setting...please help him understand all this modern stuff senpai. Friendship might happen but feeding Hizen homecooked food is honestly just as likely.

Hello!! It's always nice when people remind you of your friends who aren't around... unless those friends make you tired. But that sounds good!!

He's pretty rough but he's definitely willing to help the newbies get sorted out. He has a soft spot for people at the bottom of the social ladder given his own history. He'll watch himself and be a tiny bit nicer at first... only at first.

If anything I think Skylark makes her tired because sometimes she looks away and the next thing she knows she finds out he ran off and got himself into trouble. At least Hizen doesn't literally bite probably????

I also noticed you mentioned on Plurk about potentially looking for roomies for Hizen, and if that offer's still open I'd be happy for Skylark to be a roomie with Hizen. He can cook and clean and do chores and would prefer to live with some people as opposed to by himself, haha.

And yes!! He'll be collecting at least a couple of lost souls and letting them stay at his new place once he gets that settled. The plan is for it to be a nice apartment with an extra room or two but otherwise, nothing too fancy. He's very humble haha. But it'll be enough for him to pay for and he'll just ask everyone staying with him to contribute/pull their weight.

He's fine living by himself tbh but he honestly does better when he has people to take care of.

AND YEAH... hizen is used to a bigger space with a lot of people too. He usually has 2 other people staying in the same room as him??? And he wouldn't make his new roomies in hell sleep in the same room but... it'd be good for the soul to havae people around. u_u

All of Skylark's living situations in canon have been like, shares huge room with 6 older sisters or sharing a tiny apartment with a grandpa, so roomies would in fact be very welcome!
