Want to jump right in? This month's Substories are posted here!. As for what's been going on...

Just like the TDM set up, Jigokucho is in recovery mode after the dissipation of a curse that befell the city. It was a full-on horror apocalypse.

The curse is gone, there are rumors stirring that the turf war has ended, and the Kappa are all going back down to work on building… something. It’s all pretty hush-hush, but anyone that’s not in the Department can ask freely about it. The Enma has bigger things to be concerned with already anyway (namely the newly named cause of the curse: Haniyasu).

So what does that mean for the next two months? Well, between whatever it is being cooked up in the Underground and everything else, the theme of these two months is Tanabata! How that celebration takes shape in a place like Jigokucho will be revealed as the month goes on, so stay tuned to find out more!

Character Name: Sheliak Saarela
Canon: OC
Character Age: 21
Faction: Shuten
Brief Rundown: Sheliak is a water mage, a being of pure magic inside a human vessel. He was born human but he became a mage when his goddess chose him, along with six others to gift with her magic. He was the perfect son and heir of the noble Saarela house. He dedicated his life to meeting his family's incredibly high expectations and he hides his true self, which he sees as imperfect, behind an icy mask of perfection. His world recently fell apart when his world was destroyed and he learned the nefarious truth about his magic. Sheliak and the other mages fled to Earth, through an ancient portal, where he went from being a revered mage to a monster whose magic will end the world. Feeling betrayed by the goddess that gave him his power and lost without a purpose, Sheliak hides his fears behind a mask of nobility, desperately clinging to the last fragments of the world he lost.

Initial Ideas: My main goals for Sheliak are still the same, expand his cr, both negative and positive, and get him more involved with his clan's affairs. I want to start having him open up more so he needs friends that he feels comfortable enough with to do so. (You can also try to annoy him to the point he snaps or get him drunk if you want to see what he's hiding.)

The Haniwa curse event is going to set Sheliak back a bit. Sheliak pretends to be human but a few people saw his true form, and a wilder version of it that represented his fear of the magic inside him. So he's avoiding people a bit. He was hunted in his last world due to his magic and he does not want that to happen again.

Sheliak has his water magic back! Due to how his magical form works, too much magic is harmful to his human vessel so he has to use it constantly. He will feel a bit anxious about people seeing him use magic but he also missed it and now he can really show off. Also, he can finally nap underwater so he can be found in any conceivable body of water that's deep enough for a nice undisturbed rest.

Substories
Swipe Left...Again? - Shelaik agreed to help with the update's launch in exchange for cooking lessons so he will be more active this time. He is also very eager to share stories of his world. He and his friends made a promise to share their world's stories in order to keep the memory of their lost home alive. Stories about Althiya are one of the few things Sheliak will not hide about himself, as long as the stories are not about him personally.

Time Consuming sounds fun and I always like situations that force my stubborn mage to work with other people.

It's in the stars - Sheliak needs some joy after the nightmares and I love situations that let me show hints of Sheliak's true self. After being hit with something that messed with his emotion twice now, Sheliak will be more wary and try to stubbornly resist the stardust as long as he can. Come see a more fun side to Sheliak! (that he will adamantly deny the next time you see him)


CR Desires: Any cr is welcome, both positive or negative! I know that's not the most helpful answer but I'm open to anything and it's fun seeing how Sheliak deals with whatever is thrown at him. Here are some more helpful specifics:

- friends! (chess buddies, sparring partners, fellow magic users, strategists, music lovers, people who also hide behind a mask)
- rivals, frenemies (bonus if they have issues with nobility)
- enemies, I can't help it, I love negative cr
- fellow non humans! (please show Sheliak that he's not the monster he thinks he is, or try to get him to embrace his darker nature, both is good!)
- other old souls that have trouble with technology.
- someone to help him with yakuza and japanese culture
- cr that will challenge his narrow noble mindset that he stubbornly clings to
- lovers? (leaning towards m/m but Sheliak is bi so I'm open to other possibilities too.) In Sheliak's culture, it was forbidden to be with another man and even though Sheliak was in a secret relationship with another man, he still has internalized that belief and believes that it was wrong. I would love cr that makes Shelaik challenge this view but Sheliak does not open up easily so it would take time.

horrible pizza quest WILL happen at some point in july!! i might sneak it in to a header for an entry i'm planning to put up mid month, but it depends on what the newbie mingle ends up as. maybe they'll take everyone to the horrible chuck e cheese, we just don't know

Y'know, if Sheliak is really concerned about resisting the stardust, I know somebody who would be more than happy to take some off his hands probably without his knowledge or consent

Just the person he does not want to see, and yet can't help being intrigued by. This sounds delightful! As tempting as her offer is, she's a member from a rival clan so Sheliak would definitely not give his consent. Shuten is winning this contest.
