Want to jump right in? This month's Substories are posted here!. As for what's been going on...

Just like the TDM set up, Jigokucho is in recovery mode after the dissipation of a curse that befell the city. It was a full-on horror apocalypse.

The curse is gone, there are rumors stirring that the turf war has ended, and the Kappa are all going back down to work on building… something. It’s all pretty hush-hush, but anyone that’s not in the Department can ask freely about it. The Enma has bigger things to be concerned with already anyway (namely the newly named cause of the curse: Haniyasu).

So what does that mean for the next two months? Well, between whatever it is being cooked up in the Underground and everything else, the theme of these two months is Tanabata! How that celebration takes shape in a place like Jigokucho will be revealed as the month goes on, so stay tuned to find out more!

Tell us about yourself: I heard Pine talk about this game IRL and thought it sounded like a good time. I'm a boomerang tagger and I have so many mobage on my phone that I can't actually keep up with them all (A3!JP, Alchemy Stars, MHYK, FGO, Genshin, Disgaea RPG, Arknights, etc).

Character Name: Nero Turner

Faction: Tamamo
Brief Rundown: A wizard! A wizard who is kind of miserable at lying, but tries to do it anyway. Nero's trying very hard to be "just some guy" but his previous decisions are really getting in the way of that. An advocate for committing crimes like: grave robbing, breaking and entering, theft, etc. Formerly part of a notorious bunch of bandits, one of the strongest in the Northern Country... and now just some Eastern chef who "definitely doesn't know anything about that, do you want some apple pie?"

Initial Ideas:

He'll reluctantly want to know the people in his clan and in the the others. Since he's brand new he'd really like to have a solid basis of people he knows, even if he doesn't really want to rely on them for much.

Probably poking around here and there, trying to get some part time jobs so he makes enough to fund a small restaurant with some weird rules (you cannot talk in the building, chit chat is BANNED). Why? Because he lived in the City of Rain and that was a rule there. If he cannot have it in the city, he will have it in his building.

CR Desires:

+Friends: Nero's not really standoffish, but he's a pretty okay friend. He'll bail you out until he loses his mind about it*. (*Talk to me about this, it'll take a long time to work up to it, but Nero only ever has so much patience with the people he cares about.)

+People to feed: Please. Please, let him feed you. This is an interaction that he actually knows. He's an excellent cook, you won't be disappointed.

+Neighbors: He's probably going to be in the initial area for a long time, because he cares way ore about the restaurant than getting a new housing situation. If you're also a Tamamo newbie, let's hang out.

+Gossips: Nero doesn't gossip, but I would love to hear what you're hearing. Additionally, people who are very, very pushy. Nero keeps up high walls when it comes to his back story, so it'll take a long time to pry that out of him.

Nero works well with patient people and he's very used to living with grumpy. I think both have the potential to be fun.

hi mira! i've been so out of mahoyaku for so long, but i am excited to see nero! i used to play mithra for like a hot second. but, either way, i am very excited to throw this dragon your way!

mort isn't bothered by standoffish and he enjoys people who are strong, so i guess this is where he will constantly try to feel nero out, only for nero to be like i'm just a normal dude.... which sound like the perfect setup for shenanigans

Hi there!! I loved their thread on the tdm, finally get to introduce myself..!

I'm Kit and I play Matoba here from Natsume Yuujinchou! Matoba has very interesting and varied CR with all the wizards so far, so I love how Nero is yet again different in that Matoba and his brain-picking seemed to just roll right off of him, lol. He enjoyed himself greatly so I can say that he will definitely chat Nero up again when their paths cross...

To give some context: Matoba here is an exorcist with a hatred of non-humans, but he's also a very pragmatic business-minded kind of guy, so if making tenuous allyship with wizards and their power will bring him the results he wants, then he's willing to do so without hesitation. He's also kind of a chaotic troll at heart, so Nero's stoicism is pretty fun for him.

Hello!! I loved that thread too. It felt tense in a way Nero's very used to back home, where people are just extremely sus of everybody else. In a very funny way Nero's like "Wow this is so familiar 🙃." So the poking and prodding just felt like background noise of his existence.

I'm up for any of the substories if you are!

The hate of non-humans (and wizards specifically) is something Nero's very used to back home. Due to where he lives he's also used to being used for his usefulness, even if people cower and hate him for it. Nero tries so hard to just be some guy, but he's so bad at it.

Please troll him.

Yessss blair has told me a lot about the relationship of humans and wizards and it sounds like... quite a mess, unfortunately Matoba is not going to improve that opinion any, but he is capable of being (sort of) civil amongst them, especially those of the wizards that are less Northy likely to harm humans. He and Shylock have a real frenemy thing going on, idk.

...All that said, like Owen, Matoba can be quelled easily with sweets so if Mr. Chef ever wants to get on his good side 👉👈
