April Event Plotting

We realize we're doing this sort of backwards, but after some discussion and requests from players, we figure it's better late than never for a centralized plotting post for the event! Again, apologies for our growing pains, but we hope y'all are understanding.

Here's a breakdown summary of every prompt on the event;
Hanami The Sutoku Alliance has arranged for spectral cherry blossom trees for flower viewing, offering all kinds of food and drink to enjoy. The foods tend to be "enhanced" with peace/love inducing feelings, but they don't have to be. The spectral trees are a little creepy, if examined too closely.
Kanamura The Tamamo's foods from the mini-event are back, and are taking all kinds of cheeky forms. Sexy foods, but do not strictly need to lead to sexy times.
Hadaka - The Department of the Enma is allowing a naked endurance race, folks packed together in basically nothing, chasing after a mobile shrine and trying to grab luck sticks. Ostensibly it's for blowing off steam. May actually generate steam.
Sumo - The Shuten Clan is hosting sumo fights, and rules are expected to be followed. Shuten representatives are also expected to win any match they participate in, less they lose some pay. The prizes for winning are special sake gourds that enhance the flaovor of any drink contained within.
Food Runners - Need extra cash? Do some food running, with some extremely difficult to manage delivery gear. But the pay's good!
Bathhouse Orgy - As promised, the Tamamo have opened up their bathhouses on the route up for free-for-all fuckin'. All manner of kinks will be provided for, and some of the bathhouses will have transparency glamours cast on them to allow shows to be put on. This is the horniest prompt, by far.
Floats - Help carry elaborate lantern floats depicting huge dioramas of famous mythological events throughout Japan's history, though the depicted heroes and villains seem to be reversed...
Fireworks - Explains itself, but the fireworks are especially fantastic since they're largely created by magic, rather than simply pyrotechnics.
The assassination - The Daitengu will be assassinated in the outcome of the underground machine causing a massive cloud of steam to flood the entire parade route. Panic will ensure, and black-suited youkai will clash with the White Wolf Guard, eventually succeeding in killing the Daitengu

Faction: Sutoku Alliance
Brief Rundown: Extremely shady pragmatist exorcist clanhead. Long-range archer, magic still currently sealed. Hella cursed eye. Hates youkai, but has some complicated familiar feelings wrt the Daitengu's role being similar to his own back home. He will do whatever is necessary to fulfill his contract request so he will be a good little Sutoku.

Initial Ideas:

1. Gossip/Cherry Blossom Viewing
Matoba already had a hunch that something was going to happen during the festival fireworks between all the Kappa rumors on the network and his chat with the Daitengu (he kinda was trying to provoke them to see if they knew what was up...), so he will be spending most of the festival wearing an imp mask to hide his identity so that he can properly gather gossip and intel on what's going to go down. He's going to get little whiffs here and there from youkai, but not enough to have any grasp on the situation. I'll be tagging around probably to have him nose in on people's business and ask around!

In addition to that he'll probably spend quite a bit of the festival enjoying the flowers and sakura since he's not so interested in the uh, debauchery celebrations, so I'll probably have a prompt for that as the smalltalk option where he will almost certainly sniff out any additional info!

Floats:

Matoba will have a lot to say about the floats, lol, given that they depict famous scenes throughout jujutsushi/exorcist history from a youkai point of view.... Let's talk about the morals and philosophy of the human-youkai historical relationship :)))

Fireworks/The Assassination:

Since he smells trouble, Matoba will be distancing himself from the thick of the parade area/stage for this segment of the festival, likely taking a vantage point from a rooftop or something like that to get a good view of both the fireworks and the crowd. When shit goes down, he will be using his bow to sharpshoot the assailants as best he can with their body armor- he doubts he can get any kills without his powers so his aim is less to kill them but to injure them enough to slow them down so that another party could intercept them to capture and interrogate. Naturally, once they're getting shot at they're probably going to come after him.

I would love to have characters who are closer range fighters, or who are quick on their feet, to impromptu team-up with him to either take advantage of whatever targets he hits in order to get some dirt on who these assailants are, or to give him some back up when the assailants decide to fight back because he's pretty much useless in close quarters right now lol. These can be Sutoku characters who recognize he's an ally, or even just anyone who is sharp enough to notice the advantage he's giving those who are trying to defend the Daitengu!

When his position is compromised he will retreat and may try to approach the stage to see what the status is of the Daitengu and their confidants. As a fellow clanhead, he would be concerned about things turning to chaos quickly without orders in place and would instinctively try and ensure there was a chain of command to delegate amongst the remains of the Sutoku. If your character is a Sutoku lost in the chaos, he will likely approach and try to calm them, give them something to do.

WWX can literally only fight in close quarters at the moment (in a very funny reversal from canon) so I would love to team up /firm Sutoku handclasp meme

Maybe I can hit up your smalltalk/info-gathering prompt during the festival and then that thread can transition into them going their separate ways for a bit, and then spotting each other again when everything explodes?

ALTERNATIVELY they can just meet in the big chaos steam brawl since they'd most closely coincide in their goals there, and then if they're both going to be at Sakuma's Sutoku infosharing stuff later they can talk more in general then.

BLESS Matoba has a tanto on him and that's pretty much it to defend himself close up, so once the attackers get within like 20 feet of him or so he quickly becomes a sitting duck. He will attempt to be graceful about accepting the help, I can't promise anything but he's probably going to behave himself given the gravity of the situation?

(Also I just read his powers and ugly laughed. Matoba hates it. Disgusting Aura bros! Welcome to the team, WWX.)

ALSO YES I'm super up for Matoba making connections and then everyone happening to like, lock eyes and nod in understanding once shit starts hitting the fan, that seems like a good call!

I see your tag in the Sutoku post and your event toplevel! I'll hit up both by tonight, I'm just out and doing errands right now so it'll be a couple of hours. Hopefully I will be less all over the place on Sunday!

Oh yeah seeing you and Natori on the TDM reminded me to put it back on my to-read list (I fucking loved the series and used to RP Nyanko-sensei!) It has been...fully six years since I stopped and I think Matoba had literally just been introduced at that point, though, so I'm not surprised I've missed a ton of big stuff and have a lot to catch up on.

No need to worry, though, I am always super easy about knowing spoilers!

Matoba is happy to have this conversation, especially with a 3rd party unbiased towards either humans or youkai! Since he knows Kimmuriel is from some-other-plane-??? and he's still trying to feel out exactly what he is and what kind of world he comes from.

I'll have to do some research into what could the most ironic folktale be for the float.

the topic of her own legend will probably be danced around with a stranger, let alone an exorcist but I'd really love CR with Matoba! Shuten has a History with onmyouji in particular and she's someone who lives and thrives being the villain to humans, so I think it'd be interesting to see how their encounter goes down 👀

Honestly just as much as she thrives on being a villain to humans, the Matoba thrive on being villains to ayakashi, so the intense HATE VIBES they'll be giving off while they dance around each other in words will be amazing. And the best part is he can't even do shit about it if he wanted to because he still lacks any power. Love this.

I think the most relevant thing for Matoba would be that Lan Wangji got some of his powers back right before the event! The ways I was thinking of playing with them are written up here, though I'm open to other suggestions. So I'd be really excited for whether they wanted to have more "business" conversations and how you'd be most interested in that happening -- whether via fighting together, ghost chatter or anything else?

No problem!! I'm fine with continuing to tag stuff while doing the event (might be a bit slower lmfao but I don't mind!)

I think in the aftermath parts of the event would probably be the best place for them to get into the dirty details of business- since Rider/Sakamoto is holding a meeting for all Sutokus to sit and hash out thoughts on what went down, he'll be much more in the condition to talk about specific aspects of their situation and how it related to exorcism and the exorcist communities there!

If Lan Wangji doesn't plan to be active there (or even if he does) Matoba may very well hit him up at the Hanami area beforehand, since that seems like a good time to bother this guy that he very definitely was antagonizing a few weeks ago. He seems like a very useful guy to antagonize. Don't question Matoba's taste.

No, he's right. Antagonizing Lan Wangji is definitely what he should do. This sounds great!

AND OH I REPLIED TOO SOON. I'm not sure of the range of Matoba's senses (I can never decide at first how much I think LWJ should be able to sense when he's depowered lol) so I'll just tell you what happened and you decide: he gave the ghosts a little bit of blood when they asked! They're VERY interested and basically took everything that would bleed from the cuts that he made, but after he realized they weren't going to do anything useful with it and were just being whiny for more he cut them off. That's the reason why they're clustered so thickly and spookily around him, because they're going "BUT MOOOOOOOM?!" about it basically.
