Story So Far - Late June
The Story So Far!
Beach Party! Less a story event but it was still an important thing that happened! After all the stress the turf war and the haniwa invasion was putting on the city, the Daitengu planned this event to help ease tensions and butter up a potential peace talk between Tamamo and Shuten that he and Sakamoto Ryoma had been planning. It honestly went off without a hitch, something of a miracle. It wasn't until the party was over that bad things happened...
Cursed City This takes up the meat of what happened this month. The haniwa that had been gathered in the containment center in the 8th sublevel of Kaigo no Bou had been set off like a bomb, the containment sabotaged. This spread massive cursed energy all throughout the city, causing manifestations of nightmarish origins, blood rain, and a frenzy state that could easily kill characters if left untreated. A few important things!
Emily, Aerith, and Shylock worked together using their abilities and skills to develop a treatment/sedative for the frenzy. They also developed an incense that could be used to stave off the cursed energy in general, in small areas. This becomes very important later.
Bishop discovered that the cursed energy did not go deep into the Underground, and basically wouldn't touch any of the offices below or anything past the currently still sealed doors that lead further into the city sublevels.
Herlock (and others, tbh), were able to get Captain Shiki to tacitly admit that the biggest suspicion about how this all happened was internal sabotage. There is a traitor within the Department. Or it was possibly done by one of the clay soldiers. We'll talk about them further down!
You can read all the related questions here!
The Tower Mission Two teams (Toraguma, Cloud, Andy, Anna, Felix in one team. Daitengu, Cain, Minato, Hu Tao, Billy the Kid in the other) were selected to carry incense chalices and Hihi'irokane forged daggers into Kaigo no Bou. One went up to the Enma's office, the other down to the containment center. They were able to successfully stop the "heart" of the cursed energy AND the entity that caused it. A few takeaways!
The black-clad youkai that had carried out the hit on the Daitengu at the Night Parade were revealed to be haniwa soldiers. There were several in the sub levels and were possessed by the cursed energy, fighting to defend the "heart". It is possible one of these soldiers is who sabotaged the containment center. They appear to be something created by the Department. The Enma is not available to answer questions at this time.
The employees inside the tower were kept alive. Why this is, when the frenzy of being that close to the "heart" would kill almost anyone, is unknown.
The entity that caused all of this had enough power to seal the Enma, and were apparently engaged in some week-long staring contest with them while this was happening. They were not asked about their intentions, but rather the Daitengu's team just attacked them outright. The current assumption that this is the entity that holds a grudge against the city itself, though the details aren't known.
Their last words to both teams before disappearing were "They cannot save you". The meaning of this is currently unknown.
You can read the log here!
Moving forward The city is saved, but is in a bit of a mess. TDM prompts will focus on the fallout of this event. On an OOC level, the next two months will be more relaxed, since doing something as intense as this takes a lot of energy on both our and y'alls part, lmao. Still, we've got plot related stuff cooking to happen during this, so look forward to it!

1. He'd inform her that a Shuten assassin had been sent after Yizhi. He's still investigating the details of what happened but he'd mention feeling that negotiating with the Shuten over the Underground now could be unwise. He's worried that doing now with Toraguma will make the clan appear weak and incapable of defending itself, especially after the strain caused by the cursed night. He'll want to quickly and discreetly seal off the Underground with his maze array in retaliation for the hit attempt but won't do so without Tenkohime's approval. What would her response be?
2. He'd also make an inquiry to clan NPCs if the Tamamo Clan has any sort of teaching facilities (or business properties that could be converted to such, be used as a front for one, etc) for its recruits on hand since the subject of training people came up this month. Basically, he's looking for a teaching space to help relieve some strain on the clan. Since he only has 1 star at the moment, if that's still above his rank, it's fine, mostly just scoping out the option there since city clean-up gives him cover to work toward something like that.

2) A school to help train people in onmyoudo would be an EXCELLENT idea and she'd very much approve of it, especially given that magic is what kept Mizukume safe during the event. She actually feels that's not above his rank and would give him the funds he needs to cover the costs of the school itself. Getting Kinsei, the elder onmyouji to help, won't be difficult given Tenkohime's approval of the project, but the old fox is going to make it fairly obvious he doesn't particularly like the idea of teaching, but he doesn't get a choice in the matter.

2. Awesome! He'll start working on that then and begin looking for alternate instructors and prospective students within the clan. In the meantime, he'll put Kinsei to use on the project.

If Minato presented the Hihi'irokane dagger that actually stabbed the shadow entity to Jiro (probably in multiple layers of wrappings so as to not handle it with bare hands), is there anything specific that could be found out from that direct contact? Or no appreciable difference between the curse energy?
Also, uh, the people held in mold-stasis in the tower. How are they doing after being freed, are there any ill effects, etc? Will Minato find them in the hospital if he goes looking, or get any updates if he goes back to Kaigou again sometime over the week?

2) They'll mostly just need IV drips and food, since they were malnourished (nearly to the point of death). And probably lots of therapy. Thankfully, they were mostly just the skeleton crew that was present in the building during the parties going on the night it all started, so the Department is still able to function, but it's obvious the Department is strained by the absence of personnel. No one knows why they were kept alive but... folks are grateful, all the same.

So as of what Cloud and Matoba have discussed in this thread, one of the things Matoba will be looking into in the immediate aftermath is the relation between what happened in the Underground during the Night Parade, and what happened in the containment level during this event. He has some context for how the breach actually happened thanks to Natori's shikigami, so he knows it was some sort of sabotage. Since he spent the event earning some goodwill and clout/rank within the clan, he's going to use it~
1. If Matoba asks around the kappa, would any of them be able to show him schematics/maps showing the layout of the underground areas in relation to the rest of the city? Specifically, he wants to see how those deep underground areas that were investigated as being inaccessible in the aftermath of the Night Parade relate to where the Kaigou no Bou's containment level is, underground.
2. Matoba will also be asking the other player characters who were present to help determine this, but does anyone- including Department members or other NPC's- know where the wreckage of the machine that exploded during the Night Parade and was being held in B8 ended up, in all this chaos? Is it still there in the wreckage of this attack somewhere, or did Haniyasu take it with them?
3. He would only push his luck to ask this if the answer to #1 makes it relevant, but if he does discover that those locations are in physical relation to one another- does Matoba have enough clout at 3* to ask the Daitengu about this directly? Would he get any kind of answer on that at all, even just a sly hint, or just totally rebuffed? Of course he won't be bothering the Boss about it until they are out of the hospital, lol.
Thanks so much for all the hard work! Love these investigation events!

2) It was in storage. It's also worth clarifying on our part decisively; that machine is not relevant and will just be an IC dead end. It was a machine that was designed to work like a generator, but its actual function was ot vaporize massive amounts of water at once for the purpose of the steam bomb. If there's any connection between the machine and Haniyasu, it's not a strong enough one to pursue. We're just saying this so you don't wind up on an OOC wild goose chase.
3) Honestly, he doesn't even need that much clout. If the Daitengu is asked about it, they'll mention that the first things that were truly "finished" in the city were the underground generators used to power the city, and Kaigo no Bou as an administrative building. The Daitengu is a little more dodgy about what that could possibly *mean* in regards to what's happened, but that's more because they don't want to make targets of folks because of their open speculation.

Since Matoba is fairly familiar with what Haniyasu is/what it has domain over, he might surmise that it's maybe more about the fact that these are locations that happen to be within the ground.... Maybe Haniyasu is angered by the fact that the city has disturbed the soil by building into it...?
I'll wait for further plot stuff to have him pursue that, then! Thanks again!!

For timeline's sake (and my own tbh), this take place after the Enma's out of the hospital.
1. He wants to ask about the haniwa soldiers, for any and all information she's allowed to say. He's really curious about them, with how they seems to be created by the Department. If she doesn't know or can't say, who else can he ask about it?
2. Actually, he'd want try his luck searching the Kaigo no Bou's archives with his rank (2*) for anything on the Haniyasu. But he'll ask Captain Shiki about it, before heading for the files. Since the Enma directly named them, was there a specific motive or history recorded anywhere in the Department's information? Or that's something only the Enma would know.

2) He will find a lot of info he already knows just based on mythology, but the interesting thing of note is that the primordial gods mostly faded away because of a lack of faith to sustain them. The Haniyasu would not be an exception to this; without faith, they have no power.
