in his experience getting someone to admit to something nasty and painful is actually a good thing, because Everyone Represses Everything In Aizu including and especially childhood traumas. so he'll never regret prying, that means it's out in the open and healing or whatever! and at least he won't judge for any of it, because after all, he is History's Greatest Monster Actually! but that buckwild mood whiplash pit of negative self esteem takes a while to rear its ugly head, so that's a random, casual topic bomb for him to drop out of nowhere, much further in to the future.
