+1 to all of the above, with the added point of "We're here to have fun, not to win some nonexistant contest."
I think a lot of this is being done in the interest of preserving narrative secrecy, and I get that, but I think there's a point when fun has to override narrative suspense. We can trust the players with a little advance information and I really think it won't ruin the story or the fun of the surprise, IMO.
