We think the best way of approaching rank is thinking of it the same way you would having a character open an IC business or run an IC group of some kind. It's a direction for your character, an icebreaker for CR and a way to engage with the game.

On an OOC level, it doesn't give you as a player access to things other players wouldn't be able to get with different creativity. ICly, it is a narrative tool that helps define your character's place in the game's world more clearly.

We will be clarifying this on the FAQ and the Reward page as well, but we're open to other ways of succinctly defining this, as well, if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions.
